Abstract
ABSTRACT
Fauzi Ramadani Gunawan, 2022.“Designing Students’ Worksheet by Using
GIST Strategy in Teaching Reading at SMA Negeri 2 Luwu” Thesis
English Study Program Educational Department in the State Islamic
Institute Palopo Supervised by Abdul Pirol and Husnaini.
This thesis aimed to design students’ worksheet by using GIST Strategy in
teaching reading at SMA Negeri 2 Luwu. It applied research and development (R
and D) method. The purpose of designing the student worksheet is to provide
various activities in teaching reading that can help teachers to guide the studentss
to improving reading comprehension. The research subject were the tenth grade
students of SMA Negeri 2 Luwu. The sample technique utilized purposive
sampling by chosing the class which is in low cathegories of reading
comprehension and in this research the researcher used 4D models (define,
design, develop, and disseminate). It consisted of 24 students. The analysis of
students’ needs results through questionnaires and interview in English
worksheet, where this it is suitable for students of SMA Negeri 2 Luwu. The
mean score approved the worksheet assessment of students’ perception, which
was 4.3 of the percentage which qualified “very good” criteria. It indicates that
students’ worksheet could be used without revision. This result was supported by
the results of interview with teachers and students of SMA Negeri 2 Luwu. This
stated that the worksheets designed is in accordance with the needs of students.
The layout design of this worksheet is attractive and provides clear instructions. It
also contains various questions and vocabulary that facilitate students in
improving reading comprehension. It showed that Worksheet designed by using
GIST strategy is suitable to be used in teaching reading at SMA Negeri 2 Luwu.
