Adiba Indah Sari.R, 2023.“Using Duolingo Application to Enrich the Students
Vocabulary Mastery at the Ninth Grade of SMPN 5 Palopo” A thesis of
English Language Education Study Programof Tarbiyah and Teacher
Training Faculty, State Islamic Institute of Palopo. Supervised by (1) Dr.
Wisran, S.S., M.Pd. and (2) St. Hartina, S.Pd., M.Pd.
This research aims to determine whether the use of Duolingo Application is
effective to enrich Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at the Ninth Grade of SMPN 5
Palopo. This research adopted thepre-experimental method.Twenty-Four students
participated in this research which was taken purposively. Duolingo Application
was the medium used to enrich the students’ vocabulary mastery. The researcher
collected the data through pre-test, treatment, and post-test. SPSS 20 edition was
used to perform statistical analysis on the data and describe quantitavely.
Investigation revealed that the mean post-test score is greater than the pre-test
score (77,91 < 89,58) also significance value is 0,00 < 0,05. The result of the
student’s score of the post-test became more elavated than pre-test representing
the treatment’s effectiveness in helping the learners to improve their vocabulary
mastery. It could be summarized that using Duolingo Application significantly
improves students’ vocabulary.
