Abstract
This thesis discusses improving children's reading skills through big book media in Group B children at Al Ikhsan Islamic Kindergarten, Palopo City. This research aims to find out how to describe the reading ability of children aged 5-6 years at the AI Ikhsan Islamic Kindergarten, Palopo City. To find out how to
improve the reading ability of children aged 5-6 years at the Al Ikhsan Islamic Kindergarten, Palopo City. This type of research is classroom action research (PTK). This research was
conducted in two cycles and each cycle consisted of four meetings. The classroom action research procedure consists of four stages, namely: planning, implementation, observation, reflection. The subjects of this research were 15 students from group B of the Al Ikhsan Islamic Kindergarten, Palopo City. The data collection techniques for this research were observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis used is qualitative descriptive and quantitative descriptive.
The results of this research show that the increase in children's reading skills through big book media increased after taking action through activities using big book media. This can be seen from the percentage increase obtained in cycle I which was 53% and in cycle II it was 80%. So the use of big book media in learning
activities can improve children's reading abilities.
