Abstract

This study aims to address the low level of English vocabulary mastery among seventh-grade students at SMPN 3 Bua Ponrang. Many students experience difficulties in understanding and using basic English vocabulary, which hinders their ability to communicate effectively in class. Low learning motivation and the use of less engaging instructional methods are identified as the main contributing
factors. The research investigates the effectiveness of the Hello English application in improving students‟ vocabulary mastery. A pre-experimental onegroup pretest–posttest design was employed. The study was conducted over a 30-
day period at SMPN 3 Bua Ponrang. The population comprised 176 seventh-grade students, from which a sample of 30 students was selected. Data were collected through a pretest to measure vocabulary mastery before the intervention, followed by treatment using the Hello English application, and concluded with a posttest to measure improvement. The analysis revealed a significant increase in vocabulary mastery, with the mean score rising from 66.87 on the pretest to 84.30 on the posttest. Statistical testing showed a t-value of 6.909, which exceeds the critical ttable value of 2.045 at a 0.05 significance level with 29 degrees of freedom. These
findings indicate that the use of the Hello English application has a significant positive effect on enhancing the vocabulary mastery of seventh-grade students at SMPN 3 Bua Ponrang.
