Abstract

ABSTRACT
Maskur, 2022, “Developing English-Speaking Worksheet for Culinary Art Study
Program at the Tenth Grade Students of SMKN. 1 Palopo”. Thesis,
English Study Program at Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty in the
State Islamic Institute of Palopo supervised by Hilal Mahmud and Dewi
Furwana.
This thesis was about developing English-speaking worksheets for the culinary art
study program for the tenth-grade students of SMKN 1 Palopo. According to the
research questions, the aims of this research were: (1) To find out the need
analysis of the worksheets of English speaking skills for culinary art students of
SMKN 1 Palopo; (2) To find out the appropriate design of English speaking
worksheets for culinary art students of SMKN 1 Palopo; (3) To design the final
product of the appropriate English speaking worksheets for the culinary art
students of SMKN 1 Palopo. This research applied the research and development
(R & D) methodology through the 4-D Design Model. It consists of Define,
Design, Develop, and disseminate. The respondents were culinary art students in
the tenth grade of SMKN 1 Palopo, which consists of 2 (two) classes with 24
students. This study employed a student needs analysis questionnaire, teacher
interviews, expert product validation sheets, students‟ and teachers‟ perceptions of
the product. As the product of this study, four culinary art topics were developed
through the students' speaking worksheets. The topics include basic culinary,
service procedure, operational procedure, and table manners. Thus, the results
demonstrated that this research's output was suitable for the culinary art study
program for the tenth-grade students of SMKN 1 Palopo. The designed speaking
worksheets in this research could be used as a teaching and learning resource to
boost students‟ motivation in learning English.
