IMPROVING STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL THROUGH CRITICAL THINKING AT THE THIRD SEMESTER STUDENTS OF ENGLISH STUDY PROGRAM TARBIYAH DEPARTMENT STAIN PALOPO

This thesis focused on the improvement of students` Speaking skill at
STAIN Palopo by using Critical Thinking. This thesis focused on one research
question is critical thinking effective to improve the students` speaking at the Third
semester students English Study Program Tarbiyah Department STAIN PALOPO?
The researcher applied experimental research with pre-test and post-test
design. This research was undertaken at the third semester English Study program
Tarbiyah Department STAIN Palopo. The numbers of population were 123 students
and the researcher took 20 students from class A to D as samples using random
sampling technique. The researcher used test as instruments of the data collection.
The result of this research showed that there were significant improvements
on students` speaking skill at the third semester English study Program Tarbiyah
Department STAIN Palopo after conducting the treatments by using Critical
Thinking. In which the score of ttest (6,732) is bigger than the score of ttable (2,09). It
means that Critical Thinking gives significant improvement to students’ speaking
skill.
