This thesis focused on finding out the appropriate way of through three phase in
teaching vocabulary to the eleveth year of MAN Masamba?
This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) with two cycles namely the
first cycle and the second cycle. Each cycle consists of four steps, namely planning, action,
observation, and reflection. There were four meetings during the research cycle. The sample
of this study was class XI IPA1 consists of 26 students. In collecting the data, the researcher
used the observation, interview and vocabulary test in evaluation.
The result of this study revealed that the cycle 2 was better than the cycle 1 scores. The
students showed a great enthusiasm during the lesson. The mean score of the cycle 2 is 85, 56
and the percentage of observation of the students ‘activities is 80%. The vocabulary mastery
of students increase after the cycle 2. In relation to the students perception in every cycle (1
& 2) proves that the students were really encouraged. Most of the students gsve positive
perception to word the using three phase teaching for improving the vocabulary.
