Riska Wulan, 2023. Implementation of Quality Management in Improving 
School Performance at Palopo 1 Public Middle School, 
Thesis for the Islamic Education Management Study 
Program, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teaching Science, 
Palopo State Islamic Institute. Supervised by Hisban 
Thaha and Firman Patawari.
The main focus of this research is the Implementation of Quality 
Management in Improving School Performance at SMP Negeri 1 Palopo. This 
study aims to identify and analyze: (1) the application of quality management in 
improving school performance at SMP Negeri 1 Palopo; (2) factors supporting 
and inhibiting the implementation of quality management in improving school 
performance at SMP Negeri 1 Palopo; and (3) How is the performance of school 
principals and teachers as a result of implementing quality management in 
improving school performance at SMP Negeri 1 Palopo.
The type of research used is to use a qualitative approach with a 
qualitative descriptive type. Data collection techniques used are observation, 
interviews and documentation studies. The subjects of this study were school 
principals and teachers. The data source is the result of interviews with school 
principals and teachers. Checking the validity of the data is done through 
triagulation. The data analysis technique used is data collection, data presentation, 
and drawing conclusions.
The results of this study indicate that: (1) The quality planning process 
at Palopo 1 Public Middle School, namely there are several involved in the quality 
planning stage, namely forming an education quality assurance team commonly 
called the SPMI team consisting of the principal, three deputy principals, and a 
representative each subject teacher and committee holds a meeting to improve 
quality report cards; (2) The process of quality control is carried out by 
formulating educational standards and measuring performance. The type of 
performance measurement carried out by the principal is teacher performance 
assessment. This is done in order to achieve, maintain, and improve quality in 
educational institutions; (3) The process of quality improvement, namely 
reviewing the constraints that exist in quality management by evaluating schools 
and conducting reviews by conducting training for teaching and educational staff 
to produce quality that is as expected; (4) the supporting factor is that the principal 
has high commitment and competence in implementing quality management while 
the inhibiting factor is that there are still a number of teachers who lack creativity 
in learning; (3) The impact obtained from the implementation of quality 
management is that it has an impact on the human resources in SMP Negeri 1 
Palopo.
