Yahya, S.E., M. Hum. This study aims to determine the difficulties at the second-grade
students at MTsS Leppagang in mastering the four basic English tenses. The formulation of the problem in this research is "What difficulties do
female students face in mastering the four basic tenses of English? This
study used a qualitative descriptive research method, which took one
month to collect data using a questionnaire test, namely multiple choice
questions of twenty numbers. Data was taken from twelve female
students. To find out the difficulties of students, the results of the
questionnaire are described. The results of this research show that female
students understand the past and future tenses more easily than other
tenses at MTsS Leppangang, Luwu Regency, because their use is relatively
easy. In this study, there were several difficulties that the researchers
found, including that female students had difficulty remembering English
vocabulary because in their daily lives they predominantly use Arabic, and
they tend to forget more quickly when they already know four or five
vocabulary words. In the process of collecting data, researchers
encountered many difficulties, including the students' memory and very
limited time. Apart from their daily use of Arabic, their task of memorizing
the Qur'an is also very busy. Keyword: Students’ Difficulties, Four Tenses, Analysing
