Akbar Harun, 2022. “Developing Students’ Vocabulary Mastery By Watching
Japanese Anime Videos With The English Subtitles At The Third Grade Of
Man Palopo,” A thesis of the English Language Education Study Program
of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty, State Islamic Institute of Palopo.
Wahibah and Rusdiansyah supervised this research.
This research aims to determine whether Japanese anime videos with English
subtitles effectively developed vocabulary mastery in the third grade of man
Palopo. This research adopted the pre-experimental method. Ninety-two students
in MAN Palopo become the population of this research, while the sample is only
30 students. The researcher collected the data through pre-test, treatment, and
post-test. SPSS 22 edition was used to perform statistical analysis on the data.
Investigation revealed that the mean post-test score is higher than the pre-test
(70.62 < 85.83). Besides, the value of the t-count was 25.751, and the t-table was
0,05, meaning the t-count was higher than the t-table. The result of the student’s
scores on the post-test became more elevated than opposed tests representing the
treatment's effectiveness in helping the learners develop their vocabulary mastery.
It could be summarized that Japanese anime video media with English subtitles
significantly improved students' vocabulary mastery. This research strongly
emphasizes that others examine the use of Japanese anime videos for different
skills imaginatively.
