Abstract

ABSTRACT
Ririn Angraeni, 2023. “The Effectiveness of Mind Mapping Technique in
Improving Students‟ Reading Skill of Narrative Text at The
Eleventh Grade of MAN Palopo.” Thesis of English
Language Education Study Program in the State Islamic
Studies Palopo Supervised by Dewi Furwana and Husnaini.
This research aims to determine whether mind mapping technique effectively
develops improve reading skill in the eleventh grade of MAN Palopo. This
research adopted a pre-experimental method. The population in this research was
150 students of MAN Palopo, while the sample consisted of 27 students. The
researcher collected data through pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The pre-test
mean score on the exam was 22.19 classified as need improvement and the posttest mean score was 75.85 classified as very good. The paired sample test
illustrates that the value of to (t-count) is -68.097 with a df (degree of freedom)
value of 26 while tt (t-table) for a standard significant level of 0.05 at df (degree of
freedom) = 26 is 2.056. This means that the t-count value is higher than the t-table
value. The table above shows a significant value (2-tailed) = .000 which means it
is less than 0.05 (the value for the standard level of significance). The weights in
the table above prove that the research H1 (alternative hypothesis) is accepted, and
Ho (null hypothesis) is rejected. These results confirm that the use of mind
mapping technique in improving students‘ reading skill is effective of eleventh
grade of MAN Palopo. The student‘s perception on the use of mind mapping
technique to improve students‘ reading skill of the eleventh grade of MAN
Palopo, shown that the relationship between test results and questionnaires is to
compare the students' abilities before and after using mind mapping technique in
narrative text learning. From the test results, it was supported by the results of the
questionnaire, the students' scores increased and the students' responses to
scramble techniques in improving their reading skills.
