This thesis is about improving the speaking skill of the
students using picture strip stories in class XI IPA 2 SMA Negeri 4 Palopo. The
researcher's question in this research is, " Is the use of picture strip story effective
to improve students’ speaking skill in SMAN 4 Palopo ? ". This research aim to
determine whether or not picture-strip stories effective to improve students'
speaking skills.This research used the pre-experimental method. In this research,
the researcher chose a sample from class XI IPA 2, which consisted of 20
students; class XI consists of three classes, starting from class IPA 1 to XI PA 3.
The total number of students in class XI, IPA 1 to IPA 3, is 71. The research
instrument used is pre-test, treatment and post-test. The result of the research
show that using picture strip stories iseffective to improves the speaking ability of
the students of class XI IPA 2; this can be seen from the progress of decreasing
students' speaking problem. The mean score of the students' speaking assessment
also increased from 66,72 in the pre-test to 75,50 % in the post-test.
