Abstract

Nur Idawati, 2024, “Effectiveness of Podcast to Improve Students Speaking
Skills at SMAN 11 Luwu Utara”. A thesis of English Language
Education Study Program of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training for
the State Islamic Institute Palopo. Supervised by consultant (1)
Sahraini and consultant (2) Fadhliyah Rahmah Muin.
This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of podcast to improve students
speaking skill at SMAN 11 Luwu Utara. A pre-experimental study was used in
this research. This research applied group pre-test design. The Population of this
research consisted of 95 students in 4 classes for the eleventh grade of SMAN 11
Luwu Utara. The sample was taken by using a random sampling technique, which
consisted of 20 students. While the research instrument used was a speaking test.
The data were analyzed by calculating using Paired Sample T-test and calculated
by using SPSS 29. The data were analyzed by calculating the mean score and
paired sample t-test. This research showed the mean score on Post-Test (12.4) was
higher than the Pre-Test (8.7). The value of data analysis, tcount (9.144), While the
ttable for the standard of significance level (0.05) on df (degree of freedom) value
19 was 2.093, which means the data stated that the value of tcount is higher than the
value of ttable. On the other hand, the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted, and
the null (H0) was rejected. It can be concluded that using Podcast is effective and
can recommended to improve students speaking skills.
