Indawati, 2024 “Improving Students‟ Speaking Skill By Using PORO
English Application at the second grade of SMPN 8
Palopo.” Supervised by the first consultant Wahibah and
the second consultant Fadhliyah Rahmah Muin.
The purpose of this study is to assess whether the utilization of the PORO English
Application can enhance students' speaking proficiency. Employing a pre-
experimental design (specifically, a one group pre-test and post-test design), the
research involved a single group undergoing pre-test (O1), receiving treatment
(X), and completing post-test (O2). Participants consisted of second-grade
students from SMPN 8 Palopo. Research tools comprised an observation sheet
and speaking assessments administered both before and after the treatment, with
data analyzed quantitatively through SPSS 22.Researcher compiled four aspects
of the student‘s score: vocabulary, fluency, pronunciation, and comprehension.
Teaching sessions were conducted over five meetings, starting with a pre-test and
ending with a post-test. Initially, students' speaking skills were low (mean score =
4.47), but after the sessions, there was significant improvement (mean score =
7.93). Many students showed enhancements in vocabulary, fluency,
pronunciation, and comprehension. The PORO English Application effectively
improved speaking skills among 2nd-grade students at SMPN 8 Palopo, supported
by the paired sample test results (tcount > ttable: 30.196 > 3.3038).
