ABSTRACT
Ulpa, 2024. “Students’ Difficulties in Writing Descriptive Text at SMP N 8 Palopo”
A Thesis, English Language Education Study Program, Education and
Teacher Training Faculty, State Islamic Institute of Palopo, supervised by
Jufriadi and Dewi Furwana.
The aim of the research is investigate the students’ difficulties in writing descriptive
text in the eighth grade at SMP N 8 Palopo. This research has two variables, namely
descriptive text as dependent variable and students’ difficulties as independent
variable. The research applied mixing method. The researcher applied purposive
sampling technique in getting data because the sample data sources need special
consideration. Special consideration here by taking the students that have low mean
score in the class especially in English score. Based on the purposive sampling
technique, the researcher’s subjects are 15 from 25 students. The result of this
research showed that the students’ difficulties in writing descriptive text are 1)
organization in their weakness in arranging introduction, content and conclusion,2)
Vocabulary in their difficulties or have limited vocabulary and they used uncommon
or difficult vocabulary, 3) Grammar in structure of the language in writing descriptive
text.
