games of the Eight Grade Students’ At SMPN 3 Bupon. A
thesis of English Education Study Program Tarbiyah and
Teacher Training Faculty State Islamic Institute of Palopo.
Supervised by: (1) Abdul Pirol and (2) Dewi Furwana.
This thesis focused on improving students’ vocabulary mastery of the Eight grade students At
SMP Negeri 03 Bua ponrang. The research question is: Is the use of Wordscapes games
effective to improve students’ vocabulary mastery of The Eight grade of SMP Negeri 03 Bua
Ponrang? The objective of this research is to find out whether or not the use of Wordscapes
games effective to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery of the Eight grade students at
SMP Negeri 03 Bua Ponrang. This research used pre-experimental research. The population
of this research is students in SMPN 3 Bua ponrang and the total of the population is 160
students. The sample of this research is class VIII A consists of 32 students. Then, the test
was calculated and analyzed by using SPSS 20. Based on the finding and discussions of the
research, this research showed that the use of Wordscapes games is effective to improve
students’ vocabulary mastery. It proved by the result of the data indicated that there was a
significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. The mean score in the pre-test was
55,40 and the mean score in the post-test was 75,80 and the researcher found that the
probability Value (Significant 2-tailed) is lower than alpha (α) (0.00<0,05). it means that the
wordscapes games is effective to improve students’ Vocabulary mastery.
