Faculty, State Islamic Institute of Palopo. Supervised by Ermawati and

This research aimed to improve students’ writing skill using Twitter at Madrasah
Aliyah Negeri of Palopo. The problem statement of this research was “Is the use of
Twitter effective in improving the writing skill for XI.E grades students at Madrasah
Aliyah Negeri of Palopo?” Based on the description above, the objectives of this
research was to find out the effectiveness of using Twitter at the elevent grades
students MAN of Palopo. This research applied the pre-experimental method with
one-group pre-test and post-test design. The material given was about Recount Text,
the test was about writing short stories for the pre-test and writing bibliography of
a Indonesian heroes for the post-test. There were 214 students at eleventh grade as
population and 27 students at Eleventh E class as samples taken by purposive
sampling technique at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri of Palopo. The data were collected
through test by focusing on five aspects of writing: Vocabulary, grammar, content,
mechanics, and organization. After analyzing data, the results showed that students’
writing skill were improved after using Twitter with the mean score of post-test was
higher than the pre-test. This statement was supported by significant value of
0.05<.000 and t0 (t-count) score of 33.791, which was a higher score than the t-table
value of 1.706. The result of this research revealed to improved students’ writing
skill using Twitter with the mean scores outpasassing the pre-test scores. This
research is hope to contribute to teacher for applying Twitter in teaching and to
enhance students writing skill. It concluded that using Twitter is an effective and
able to improve student writing skill at Madrsah Aliyah Nergeri of Palopo.
