Hirda, 2024. "Using Crossword Puzzle To Improve Students’ Vocabulary Mastery
At SMPN 8 Palopo". A Thesis of English language Study Program, Faculty
of Education and Teacher Training Faculty, State Islamic Institute of
Palopo. Guided by Wahibah and Devi Ismayanti.
This research aimed to find out the improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery
by using crossword puzzle at SMPN 8 Palopo. The research applied pre�experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test design. The population
of this research was the seventh class of students at SMPN 8 Palopo in 2024
academic year consisted of 203 students. The sample was class VII, with 25
students in the experimental class. Researcher applied purposive sampling
thecnique. The instrument of this research was a vocabulary test. The research
findings indicated that the crossword puzzle was able to improve students’
vocabulary mastery. It was proved by the mean score of the pre-test 56,80 it
classified as fair, post-test was 84.00 clssified as good. The result of improvement
is also proved with t-test value. the research found that the value of t-test 15.269
was higher than t-table value 2.064. This value means that there was significant
difference between the result of the students’ pre-test and post test. It was concluded
that the use of crossword puzzle can improve students’ vocabulary mastery at
SMPN 8 Palopo.
