Sari Windi, 2022.“Using Information Gap Technique to Improve Students’
Speaking Skill at SMPN 5 Palopo”. A Thesis of The English
Education Study Program Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher
Training State Islamic Institute of Palopo. Supervised by:
H.Madehang, S.Ag.,M.Pd. and Dewi Furwana,S.Pd.I.,M.Pd.
This research focused on Using Information Gap Technique to Improve Students’
Speaking Skill at SMP Negeri 5 Palopo. The purpose of the research is to find out
whether using information gap technique can improve students’ speaking skill at
SMPN 5 Palopo. This research applied the pre-experimental method, with pre�test, post-test design. The totals population 116 students in this research was
students of class eighth grade SMP Negeri 5 Palopo. The sample was chosen by
purposive sampling. The number of sample was 25 students. Data were analyzed
using SPSS 20. The classification of assessments included accuracy, fluency, and
comprehensibility. This research indicated that Using Information Gap Technique
improve Students’ Speaking Skill at SMPN 5 Palopo. The mean score from the
pre-test was 42.64 (average), and the mean score from post-test was 49.56
(average). The null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis
(H1) was accepted. The t-test findings showed that the value was 9,888, which
was greater than t-table 2,064. The implementation, according to the researcher, of
Using Information Gap Technique is effective for improving speaking skill in
class VIII A at SMPN 5 Palopo.
