Abstract

Hasdar, 2024. ―The Use Of Question Answer Relationship Strategy Improving
Students Reading Comprehension At Sman 4 Palopo.” Thesis. English
Education Study Program Tarbiyah and Teachers Training State Islamic
Institute of Palopo. Supervised by: Masruddin as the first consultant and
Rusdiansyah as the second consultant.
This research aims to determine the increase in students' reading comprehension by
using Question Answer Relationship (QAR) which focuses on narrative texts at
SMAN 4 Palopo. This research is pre-experimental research with one group pre-test
and post-test methods. The population of this research is class X students of SMAN 4
Palopo in the 2023 academic year. The population is 210 students. The sample was
class X, totaling 25 students as an experimental class. Researcher applied purposive
sampling. The instrument of this research is a reading test, researcher used a multiple
choice test consisting of 20 narrative text questions. Researcher gave pretests and
posttests to students. Research findings show that Question Answer Relationship
(QAR) can improve students' reading comprehension of narrative texts. This is proven
by the average pre-test score of 56.80 (fair), which is considered adequate, post-test of
84.00 (good), which is considered good and has increased. The results of this research
found that Question Answer Relationship (QAR) was effectively used in teaching
reading comprehension to students in the tenth grade of SMAN 4 Palopo. The
improvement results are also proven by the t-test value. Researcher found the tcount
value (15.269) was higher than the ttable value (2.064). This value means there is a
significant difference between the students' pre-test and post-test results. It was
concluded that the use of Question Answer Relationship (QAR) can improve students'
reading comprehension.
