Rahma Bulan, 2024. “Increasing the Students’ Reading Comprehension
Through Directed Reading Thinking Activity Strategy at SMPN 1
Sabbang.”Thesis, English Language Education Study Program Tarbiyah
and Teacher Training Faculty State Islamic Institute of Palopo. Supervised
by: Wahibah, and Magfirah Thayyib.
This research aimed to find out the increasing of the students’ reading
comprehension by Directed Reading Thinking Activity Strategy at SMPN 1
Sabbang. The research applied pre-experimental research with one group pre-test
and post-test method. The population of this research is class eigh students of
SMPN 1 Sabbang in the 2023/2024 academic year. The sample was class VIII A
with 25 students as an experimental class. The research applied total sampling.
The instrument of this research was a reading test, of multiple choice test
consisting of 30 narrative text questions. The mean score of the pre-test was 56,80
it classified as fair posttest was 84.00 it classified as good. The result of
improvoment is also proved with t-test value. The research found that the value of
t-test (15.269) was higher than t-table value (2.064). It was concluded that the use
of guided reading can improve students’ reading comprehnsion.
