A. Almanda S, 2023, “The Effectiveness of Grammar Translation Method
in Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension at The Eleventh
Grade of MA Batusitanduk”. A thesis English study program
educational department in the state Islamic Institute of (IAIN)
Palopo. Supervised bythe consultant (1) Amalia Yahya and
consultant (2) Dewi Furwana.
The research about The Effectiveness of Grammar Translation Method in
Improving Students Reading Comprehension at The Eleventh Grade of Ma
Batusitanduk. The research question of this research was What are the effective
ways in using Grammar Translation Method to improve students’ reading
comprehension at the Eleventh grade of MA Batusitanduk, the objective of the
research is aimed at improving the students’ reading comprehension. This
research used classroom action research (CAR). The subject of the research was
students of senior high school at MA Batusitanduk, which consisted of 10
students. Planning, action, observation, and reflection were the fourth steps in
each of the research's two cycles, which were numbered cycle I, and cycle II. In
the cycle I = 66,5 points, and cycle II = 83.2 points. Based on the study findings,
the effectives ways in using Grammar Translation Method to improve students’
reading comprehension are: 1). The teacher teaches students about tenses based
on the GTM. 2). The teacher gives examples of tenses that are easy for students to
understand using GTM. 3). The teacher practiced the students to make sentence
base on the tenses of GTM. 4). The teacher gave interesting texts to students such
as narrative texts containing fairy tales and fables so they don't get bored the
narrative text. 5). The teacher gave narrative text to read and translate a narrative
text or fable by using GTM.
