The objective of this research to find out whether the use of project-based
learning methods is effective in increasing student creativity in writing English
poetry for class VIII students at SMPN 5 Palopo. In this study, researchers used
pre-experimental methods. The total sample in this study was 16 students.
Researchers collected data through pre-test and post-test writing tests. Data were
analyzed statistically using SPSS and manual calculations. The results showed
that the average pre-test score was lower than the post-test (48.62<68.18). With a
significance standard of 0.05 (5%). Meanwhile, tcount (13.581) is higher than
ttable (2.131) at df = 15. This means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is
accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. This shows that the use of the
project based learning method is effective in improving students' ability to write
English poetry
Key words: writing ability, english poetry creativity, project based learning
