Nurul Hidaya, 2024. "The Effectiveness of Using Silent Video in Teaching
Writing Descriptive Text at the Twelfth-grade Students of MAN Palopo".
A thesis of English Education Study Program at Tarbiyah and Teacher
Training Faculty, State Islamic Institute of Palopo (IAIN Palopo). By
Rustan Santaria as the first consultant, and Fadhliyah Rahma Muin as the
second consultant.
This thesis focused on improving students' abilities in writing descriptive text for
twelfth-grade students at MAN Palopo by using silent videos. This research aims
to find out whether the use of silent videos is effective in improving students'
ability to write descriptive text in twelfth-grade students at MAN Palopo. This
thesis used pre-experimental research as a research method. The population in this
study were class XII students at MAN Palopo. Eight classes were held. Students
from 8 groups constitute the entire population. The total population is 265
students consisting of 172 female students and 93 male students. The researcher
used a purposive sampling technique by selecting 23 samples. The instruments in
this research are pre-test and post-test. Data were analyzed statistically using
SPSS version 22. The results showed that the student's average score on the post
test (72.61) was higher than on the pre-test (42.17). Apart from that, the
probability value is lower than 0.00 < 0.05 alpha (a). This means that the
alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected.
Researchers concluded that the use of Silent Video is effective in teaching
descriptive text writing skills to twelfth-grade students at MAN Palopo.
