ABSTRACT
Uswatun Hasanah, 2024. "Enhancing Student’s Writing Skill through Personal
Photograph at The Tenth Grade Student’s of MAN Palopo" a
thesis of the English Language Education Study Program,
Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty of State Islamic
Institute of Palopo. They were supervised by : Husnaini and
Yuyun Ruqiyyat Said .
This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using Personal Photograph to
enhance writing descriptive text of the X.F grade students‟ at MAN Palopo. This
study applied pre-experimental research design focusing on one group's pre-test
and post-test design. The population of this research was all of the students tenth
grade of MAN Palopo, which comprised 259 students divided into nine classes.
There were 20 students as the sample, which is by purposive sampling. The
results of this research showed that the mean score on Post-Test (82.9) was higher
than the Pre-Test (66.7). The value of data analysis, tcount was 8.097 while the ttable
was 2.093 and for the standard of significance level 0,05 (5%) on df (degree of
freedom) value was 19. The data indicated that the value of tcount is higher than the
value of ttable. It means that alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted, and null
hypothesis (HO) was rejected. It can be concluded that using Personal Photograph
is effective and can be recommended in teaching descriptive text to increase
students' writing skills. The use of Personal Photograph in teaching descriptive
text can help students in MAN Palopo to develop their writing skill primarily in
the five components namely content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and
mechanics. As well as the use of this method in the research has an impact on
improving students' writing skills where they are better at composing a word into
a complete paragraph.
