Program Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty State Islamic Institute of
Palopo. Supervised by: Madehang, and Magfirah Thayyib.
This study investigates the phenomenon of code switching in adolescent
relationships in South Sukamaju. Code switching refers to the practice of
alternating between two or more languages or language varieties in a single
conversation.Through a qualitative approach combining questionnaire and study
employed in-depth interviews and observations to collect data.The findings reveal
that adolescents in South Sukamaju frequently engage in code switching when
interacting with their peers and romantic partners. Code switching is used as a
strategy to establish and maintain social relationships, as well as to negotiate
identity and social status. The study also identifies factors such as family
background, education, and social media influence as predictors of code switching
in adolescent relationships.
This study contributes to our understanding of the role of code switching in
adolescent relationships and its implications for communication and social
relationships. The findings have implications for educators, parents, and
policymakers seeking to develop effective communication strategies for
adolescents.
