Technique to Improve Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at
the Tenth Grade Of SMK Nusa Prima Lamasi” A

This study aimed to determine whether the use of observing and remembering
techniques in improving students' vocabulary mastery was effective or ineffective.In
this study the researcher used the pre-experimental method, in the data collection, the
researcher gave a pre-test before treatment and conducted a post- test after treatment.
The sample of this research was the class XII students ofSMK Nusa Prima Lamasi,
totaling 20 students. The instrument of this research was a multiple-choice
vocabulary test. Then the tests were calculated and analyzed using SPSS 20. Based
on the research findings, it was shown that the useof the observing and remembering
technique was effective in increasing the vocabulary of students at SMK Nusa Prima
Lamasi. The increase in students' vocabulary after treatment had proved by the
results of the data showing a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test.
The average score on the pre-test was 31.75, and the average score on the post-test
was 46.75. The value of t0 (tcount) = 11,937 and the value of tt (ttable)= 2,093 at a
significant level of 5% (0.05) with df (degree of freedom) = 19. Based on these
results, namely 11,937 > 2,093 or t0 (tcount) was greater than tt (ttable), from these
results it concluded that there was a significant difference in vocabulary mastery
before and after using the observing and remembering technique, meaning the use of
the observing and remembering technique. This was effective in increasing the
vocabulary of class XII students at SMK Nusa Prima Lamasi.
