consultant.
The purpose of this study was to determine the strategies of teachers in teaching
speaking skills. With the purpose of this study, this study describes the strategies
used by teachers in teaching speaking. This study was conducted in the eight
grade of SMP Muhammadiyah Boarding School. The method used in this study
was qualitative with a case study design. The instruments used were interviews,
observations, and document analysis. First, interviews were conducted with two
eighth grade English teachers. Second, observations were conducted in two
classes in each of the two English teachers. Third, document analysis was
conducted using the lesson plans used by the teachers. The researcher concluded
that teachers have four strategies for teaching speaking, namely; acting from a
script, communication games, discussions, and storytelling. The implementation
of the strategy is divided into three parts, namely opening, main activities, and
closing. In these three parts, the teacher carries out procedures starting from the
introduction, tasks, monitoring, and feedback and follow-up.
