Abstract

ABSTRACT
Nurdiana Tandi Langi., 2024. “Teaching vocabulary by using picture of
Luwu culture activity at SMP Negeri 8 Palopo.” Thesis, English
Language Education Study Program of Education and Teacher
Training Faculty. The State Islamic Institute of Palopo.
Supervised by: Masruddin as the first consultant and Ermawati
as the second consultant.
The research aimed to find out whether or not the use of picture of luwu
culture activity to improve students‟ vocabulary effectively at SMP Negeri 8
Palopo. This research applied pre-experimental research with one group pre�test and post-test. The population of this research was eighth grade students of
SMP Negeri 8 Palopo in 2024 academic year. The total of population was 210
students. The sample was class VIII consisted of 33 students as an
experimental class. The researcher used multiple choice test that consisted of
15 questions. The researcher gave a pretest and postest to the students. The
research findings indicated that using picture of Luwu culture activity can
improve students‟ vocabulary. It was proved by the mean score of pre-test was
61.36 (poor) it classified as poor, posttest was 90.00 (very good) it classified
as very good and improve the vocabulary. The result of this research found
that using of picture was effectively in teaching vocabulary at eighth grade of
SMP Negeri 8 Palopo. The result of improvement is also proved with t-test
value. The researcher found that the value of t-test (11.853) was higher that t�table value (2.021). This value means that there was significantly difference
between the result of the students pre-test and post-test. It was concluded that
the use of picture of Luwu culture activity can improve students‟ vocabulary
mastery.
